LIVING WITH (AND INSIDE) TAOS REAL ESTATE I’ve lived in Taos for more than thirty years and owe most of my personal wealth to timely Taos real estate transactions. Since the mid-seventies Taos has been a terrific place to live. It’s also been a good place to make money. You’ve heard the adage “location, location, location.” I think the adage should be “timing, timing, timing.”
It’s hard to talk about timing though when prices are spiking--like they did from 2002 to 2006. Amazingly, many people chose to purchase Taos real estate when prices were streaking skyward, or even starward. Well, just like everywhere else, the Taos real estate bubble has burst too. Prices are off about 20-30% since 2006.
If there has ever been a time to buy, it's now. But are people buying Taos real estate now? A few smart people are. And they're getting bargains. Every week I see a home that might have been over $400,000 a few years ago today sell for $300,000. In fact prices went up much farther and much faster in many other places. If you compare Taos real estate to other towns in the Rocky Mountain region that have similar recreational and cultural activities, Taos is very fairly priced
