THE BEST TAOS RELOCATION ADVICE EVER
Before you shop Taos real estate, apply for a new mailbox or even pick up the classified ads to view apartments for rent, try to figure out how you'll earn a living here. I'm not talking about staying busy, but actually how you'll earn a living wage. And you certainly need to do this before you rent the U-Haul. (Read Buyer's Tip #1)
If you've got a good skill, chances are there are already a couple of dozen people here with the same skill, not earning a living, but keeping busy. $600 a month is sort of an entry level apartment that would be liveable. Smaller houses go for $900 a month on up. That's not outrageous. But even that might become burdensome if you can't make a couple of thousand a month. You won't find very many good rentals available, so don't expect a lot of choices.
Taos real estate is a terrific thing to own, but it's expensive. Don't quit your current job before you try to buy a home, and don't make any big purchases that could ding up your credit record. Unless you can be happy "keeping busy" while struggling to pay your cable bill, figure out how to earn a living wage. Maybe you're loaded already, in which case you don't need "the best relocation advice ever." However there will probably be other relo advice you'll find helpful. Keep reading.
